Doug Puls Harmonica and Guitar Instruction CDs and Tapes

Sold exclusively through Coast to Coast Music, my instruction CDs and tapes are based on over 30 years of experience as a performer, playing and teaching blues harp, and guitar. I have designed these CDs and tapes with students in mind, focusing on their specific needs and musical problems.

The harmonica CDs and tapes include cool riffs you can steal, valuable information and advice about blues harp technique, playing skills and equipment. They also include guitar rhythm tracks so you can practice the material on each CD and tape with a rhythm background.

The guitar tapes cover essential "must know" topics for the beginning and intermediate blues student, including: creative rhythm guitar, lead guitar and the blues scale, slide guitar.

Consider me your personal instructor! You can e-mail me with your specific problems and I will be glad to help.

Benefits of using my CDs and tapes include:

1. No books to buy!
2. Save money on lessons.
3. Listen to my CDs and tapes in the car.
4. Rhythm tracks to practice with.
5. E-mail me for advice and answers.
6. I will walk you through each lesson.

Doug Puls Harmonica CD # 1 - Learn the Basics and to Improvise.  CD #1 is my "Learn the Basics & Improvising Tape" contains instruction and tips for learning to work within the 12 bar blues structure, breaking up rhythm, how to improvise, and how to use target notes to build solos. The CD also includes how to practice with a metronome to improve your sense of rhythm.  Tape

Doug Puls Harmonica CD #2 - Learn to Bend Notes.  CD #2 is my "Learn How to Bend Notes" CD. I have given all of the tricks and tips to help you bend notes that I have picked up in my years of teaching. This CD also includes an introduction to the blues scale, a number of different guitar jam tracks for practice, and tips on improvising and building solos. This CD is also done in the Key of G, so you can use your trusty C harp with it. My partner gave it to his 15 year old son to try. He couldn't even get a decent note from draw 2 before listening. Within 15 minutes he was getting a full deep bend on hole 2 draw whenever he wanted to, and then moved this new skill to holes one, three, and four within minutes!  Tape

Doug Puls Harmonica CD #3 - What Key Are We In?  CD #3 is the one I like to call "Hey, What Key Are We In?" I give you some review tips on cross harp and soloing, 15 guitar rhythm tracks in different keys with tips for finding the key, and an introduction to third position with some tips on finding the target notes and harp to use. The guitar rhythm tracks range from slow to fast in a whole variety of blues styles, and are played in the six most common keys used for blues music. I recommend John's famous "Harp Kit" for this one!  The kit contains the 6 most often used harps and a chromatic pitchpipe to help you find keys. (See Harmonica "To Do List").  Tape

Doug Puls Harmonica CD #8 - Duets With Doug.  CD #8 is my rhythm guitar CD with 10 tracks to put harp players through the paces!
Each track is at least 5 minutes long and is in the style of several classic blues. It is a real chance to work out your riffs. I have given you the guitar song key and the corresponding harp to use so you can dive right in! I suggest you listen to each track first to get the "feel" of the rhythm pattern to help you get an idea how you will play your solo. A must for beginners and intermediates! Great for advanced players who want to warm up before the gig!  Tape

Duets With Doug: The Ultimate Jazz Fakebook Series for Harmonica - CD Version - CD101

I have created a new duet series with chromatic players in mind. I have been asked at harmonica seminars and festivals to create a series of CDs/tapes of rhythm guitar accompaniment for standards, pop tunes and jazz tunes.

I asked chromatic players for advice on developing the series and making song suggestions. As a result of their input, John Watts and I searched for a book that would contain a majority of the requested tunes. John contacted and received permission from Hal Leonard Publications to use The Ultimate Jazz Fakebook as the source for the series. The series will give you an opportunity to:

1. Play duets with Doug as your rhythm guitarist.
2. Sight read melodies.
3. Improvise choruses

I'll be your personal rhythm guitarist accompanying you on the above tunes selected from Hal Leonard Publications' The Ultimate Jazz Fakebook, C Edition. I'll back you up on guitar so you can play the melody and improvise. I will provide page number, song title, song key and starting melody note and count you in for each tune.  Tape
