Garden State Harmonica Club
All About the Garden State Harmonica Club
Founded in 1971 by George Osterman, a local musician, the Garden State Harmonica Club is one of the nation's leading harmonica organizations, providing a gathering place for those who share the enjoyment of this simple yet beautiful instrument... the well beloved 'mouth organ'. The membership is drawn from a wide geographic area, and includes beginning players, professionals, former professionals, and others who attend simply to hear the great sounds of which the instrument is capable. The club also supports a Harmonica Ensemble which performs frequently throughout the area, providing entertainment for various local organizations.
Club members come from all over the United States and Canada but the majority is in New Jersey. At one time members of the renowned “Harmonica Rascals” were parts of the roster. A number of contemporary harmonica artists are current members, attend the meetings and play. The Garden State Harmonica Club is incorporated, non profit and tax exempt.
We celebrate two annual events. One is a June picnic in Van Saun Park, Forest Avenue, Paramus, NJ at which members perform in an informal outdoor setting for themselves and anyone of the public who chooses to listen. The second music celebration is an October Festival, including a Banquet which features performances by talented visitors and by the club's own members. The Garden State Harmonica Club meets monthly, except June and July, on the second Friday of the month at 7:30 p.m., in Maywood, NJ at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer lower auditorium, corner of Maywood and Taplin Avenues. (The entrance is on Taplin Avenue.) For exact meeting dates and for the Picnic and Festival schedule, e-mail us. Refreshments are provided at meetings, and visitors are always welcomed. This website contains a map showing how to reach our meeting place.
On this website are recent back issues of The REED, the club's newsletter, which is mailed ten times per year to every member in good standing. New members are always welcome, whether players or listeners. Club dues are a modest $20. A Membership Application can be downloaded and sent for new and renewal purposes. For more on our group, check out this website, click on the links, write for information or e-mail us through the “Contact Us” section.

Harmonica Plus of Newport News, Virginia
We are a small group that meets on a monthly basis for 'open mike' and fellowship. The plus indicates that we will accept other musical instruments. Although the primary focus is on harmonica, if you can haul in in, you can play it. This has worked well for us and we have had some pretty good 'jam' sessions.
